What we collect
Your account details (name, email), the transcripts and notes you create, and the folders you organize them in. That's the product. We also keep basic usage metering — minutes transcribed, notes generated — to enforce plan limits, and the approximate country you sign in from (a two-letter code from your network, not your IP address) so we can offer fair regional pricing. When you sign up we also note how you found us: the website that sent you (its name only, for example a search engine or an AI assistant), any campaign tags on the link, and the first page you saw. We never see what you searched for or asked.
Audio is never kept
Audio from a browser tab you share or from your microphone reaches us in short chunks. Each chunk is deleted from our storage the moment it has been transcribed, and so is any chunk we fail to transcribe. Deletion is a built-in step of the pipeline, not a setting you have to find.
When you upload an audio or video file, your browser turns it into the same short audio chunks on your own device. The original file never leaves your computer, and the chunks are deleted the same way.
While you record with your microphone, your browser also keeps a temporary copy of each chunk on your device until it has reached us, so a crash or a lost connection doesn't cost you the lecture. Each copy is removed once it is uploaded, and you can delete any leftover copy yourself.
We cannot play your audio back, and neither can anyone else.
Slide images and on-screen text
If slide capture is on, NoteAlong takes still images of slides from the browser tab you share, and the text on them, only while recording and never while paused or when the tab is silent. To choose the few slides that go into your note, these images and their on-screen text are processed by our language-model provider (see below), under terms that exclude your content from model training. Only the slides chosen for your note are kept: they are stored with the note, reachable only through unguessable private links, and deleted when you remove them from the note or delete the note. All other slide images and text are deleted right after your note is made (and if a note can't be made, all of its slides are deleted). You can turn slide capture off any time from the capture screen or in Settings.
No AI training on your content
Transcription, note generation and slide selection run on API configurations that are contractually excluded from model training. Your transcripts, notes and slide images are never used to train any model — ours or a provider's.
Your notes are private
Notes live in your workspace and are visible only to you. There are no public sharing surfaces. If you connect Notion, notes are pushed only when you ask.
Who processes your data for us
A small number of providers act on our instructions to run the product: a speech-to-text provider and a language-model provider for note writing and slide selection (both under terms that exclude your content from model training), a transcript provider for YouTube links, cloud hosting and storage, and an email service for account emails. When paid plans are available, payments are handled by our payment provider: card details go directly to them and never touch our servers. We use Microsoft Clarity for anonymised session analytics on the marketing and app pages, with text masking on. We never sell your data.
Cookies
We set a session cookie so you stay signed in, a small cookie holding your approximate country, small cookies recording how you arrived (the referring site and campaign tags described above, and a partner code if you used a partner's link), and analytics cookies from Clarity. There are no advertising cookies.
Deleting your data and your rights
Delete a note and it's gone, along with its transcript and any slide images in it. Delete your account and everything goes with it. You can export your notes at any time, and you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or to correct or erase it, by emailing support@notealong.com. We answer within a few days.
