useState — state in function components
Calling the setter queues a re-render; updates inside the same event are batched. When the next value depends on the previous one, pass the updater form — setCount(c => c + 1) — so stacked updates can't clobber each other.
Lazy initialization: useState(() => expensive()) runs the initializer once, not on every render.
State is per component instance — two renders of the same component never share it.
Timestamps are the note's citations — each block points back to the moment in the source it was written from. Faithful notes you can check, not summaries you have to trust.

Is this legal?
For personal study use, yes. NoteAlong records audio that's already playing in your own browser tab, on your own machine — the digital equivalent of taking notes by hand, just faster. We never download, scrape, or redistribute content from any platform, and your notes stay private to you.
Do you store my audio?
No. Audio is transcribed in short chunks, and each chunk is deleted from storage the moment its text is written. Deletion is a built-in step of the pipeline, not a preference. What remains is the transcript and your note.
Which browsers work?
Chrome and Edge — any Chromium-based browser that supports sharing a tab with audio. Firefox and Safari don't expose tab audio yet; we'll support them the day they do.
Does it work on paid course platforms?
Yes. NoteAlong listens to the tab's audio, so it works wherever the video actually plays — Udemy, Coursera, bootcamp portals, internal training sites. No captions or transcripts required from the platform.
What languages are supported?
The speech engine understands roughly 100 languages, so your tutorial doesn't have to be in English. Generated notes read best in English today; more note languages are on the roadmap.
Do you train AI on my data?
Never. Transcription and note generation run on API configurations that are contractually excluded from model training. Your content is never used to train anything — ours or anyone else's.
